introduction to
online council
Practice council online with experienced Certified Council Trainers and learn basic skills for facilitating council circles for friends and family.

This 6-hour online course, offered over four weekly 90-minute sessions, is a powerful and inspiring introduction to the practice of council, offering an experiential opportunity to work with the basic elements and forms of council in the online environment, and support for beginning to work with these skills in one’s life.

This course is tailored to the virtual space and led by two veteran Center for Council trainers. Participants will be introduced to the basic components and intentions of council and will have the opportunity to develop fluency with the practice. This workshop provides an online introduction for educators, artists, business professionals, therapists, social service workers, and others. It offers an opportunity to experience the practice of council, and to explore the subtleties of listening and speaking from the heart, as well as what it means to truly embody spontaneity and leanness.

What is included:
  • Four 90-minute experiential learning sessions with two senior Council Trainers, held over the course of four weeks (sessions after the first will be recorded and made available to you if you miss a week)
  • "Homework" assignments each week to help you develop your familiarity with the practice
  • Free access to our online Social Connection Councils for the duration of the program, to provide more opportunity to learn through practice
  • Digital "handouts" for material covered, including suggested reading list
  • 50% off The Bridge: Science and Practice of Mindfulness

By end of this course, participants will have received enough understanding and experience with council to begin practicing with friends and family, helping to establish genuine, deep connections that are sometimes difficult to maintain during these times of social distancing. This online program is an ideal precursor to the more in-depth Council Trainings offered in person by Center for Council throughout the year, as public safety permits.

Learn more about the history and applications of council here. To experience an online council, attend one of our weekly Social Connection Councils.
