Director of Development
Full Time Salary range: $75,000 – 80,000

Center for Council is a small but rapidly growing organization that offers Council-based programs and trainings that promote communication, enhance wellbeing, build community and foster compassion within the criminal and social justice fields. Council is a mindfulness-based practice derived from many ancient forms of communicating in a circle. Council engenders deep listening without judgment, fosters an atmosphere of respect for ourselves and for others, promotes empathy, dissolves barriers to cooperation, and builds understanding and community. Center for Council’s work is focused on inflection points throughout the social justice continuum; the organization offers programs in schools, prisons, law enforcement agencies, and community based organizations, and trainings for groups and individuals from all professions and walks of life.
Center for Council is fiscally sponsored by Community Partners. The organization is five years old and has grown tremendously in that time. We are now looking for an extreme self-starter who can hit the ground running to help us get to the next level. With enormous public attention on reforming the criminal justice system, our organization is poised for accelerated growth and program expansion; implementing a development strategy that taps the current momentum will be exciting and fast-paced.

The Director of Development creates and implements a strategic approach to fundraising which may include individual donations (including major gifts and annual fund), corporate donations, government and foundation grant solicitation, government and corporate contracts and in-kind resources.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Executive Director and Advisory Board to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization
Implement the fund development plans in accordance with ethical fundraising principles
Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner
Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved
Prepare and submit grant proposals and applications
Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events
Identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects
Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information
Engage volunteers for fundraising purposes and manage fundraising committee
Develop and manage fund development budget
Oversee a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization
Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts
Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of fundraising experience for a professional, non-profit organization Knowledge of nonprofit best practices Knowledge of fundraising management and all facets of fund development Knowledge of special events planning and management Knowledge of the management of volunteer resources Knowledge of grants research and proposal writing Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills Computer proficiency:
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Organize: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities
Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem
Integrity: Always maintain and practice the high ethical standards of the organization and its mission
