Public and Private Workshops

Council provides innumerable benefits for individuals, as well as for communities tackling a multitude of different objectives and challenges. It offers a compassion-based practice for slowing down, for fostering a deeper listening to oneself and the world around us and for honing more effective communication and relationship skills.

Training in Council generally begins with a two-day workshop, Introduction to the Way of Council, also known as "Council Training 1." Council Training 1 provides an experiential introduction to Council, background and context for the practice, and an overview of the terminology, pedagogy and specific skills involved in creating a Council circle. Council Training 1 delivers the tools necessary to begin to explore Council on one's own and to facilitate circles.

Advanced training is recommended after one has experienced working with Council on one's own and has developed the facility and greater intimacy with the practice that comes with experience, as well as a developing awareness of one's personal edges and "shadows." Deepening the Practice with a Council Training 2 workshop is often a powerful experience. Council Training 3 is a deeply immersive opportunity to explore Living the Way of Council that goes beyond initiating circles.

Additionally, many seasoned practitioners find that refreshing their practice by revisiting these basic training workshops is a nourishing and inspiring way to explore the subtleties and depth of the practice and to strengthen one's Council facilitation skills.
