Joseph: "I recognized a need for a change, a need to give back."
Participants in Center for Council’s Inmate Council Program share their first-hand experiences with Council practice.
Center for Council’s Inmate Council Program is active throughout the state in 22 California prisons. This six-month training program introduces inmates to Council practice in support of healthy and productive perspectives and behaviors. The program has resulted in tangible and meaningful shifts in behavior on prison yards, including collaboration among ethnic groups, inmates taking steps to be accountable for their behavior and seeking forgiveness, as well as improved regulation of impulsive and reactive communication styles, leading to reduced incidents of violence.
